A brief day hike on a familiar, short trail, provided the opportunity to look around in grayscale. How was the light playing among these trees on wooded limestone hills? I had my first roll of film back in the Voigtlander camera and was really testing the mechanism of the ‘baby boomer’ camera (and my memory of the shoot, and the developing process at home).
This tree was a real standout among the darker cohort of others. White bark provided reflected light that the rest did not have. It’s not a bad thing to stand out from a crowd. Winter timing removed leaves from branches that have previously hidden, or at least subdued the one trunk that now caught my eye. An optimum sun angle cooperated in giving me a good vantage point from the hillside.

I’ve been known to stand out from among others through the years. This tree and I are simpatico. My eyes will be tuned to finding other standouts to capture.
